Beautiful "rod" Merv!
Here's a '56 Ford F-100 I just finished. There might be some flaws because I haven't walked away and come back to it yet. But it should be close to finished anyway.

Well, here is my attempt for the show, i drew a Ford truck too in XDP7 but another model, and used the Named Colours in XD to give the truck another colours with one touch. I like how the truck drawing with the colours turned out, started to draw it as we talked about the thread, but have no time, just this friday could draw it finished.

I'm posting this here because I think it would be very useful to other members who work with video clips from their compact cameras, camcorders or mobile phones.
I have no affiliation with FreeMake. It's freeware, is designed without any limitations, hidden costs, sneakware or adware!

FormatFactory was my favourite video converter for a couple of years, yesterday I chanced across FVC from FreeMake.
I have to say that it's not only faster (much faster) but the results appear superior while maintaining good compression.
Not only does it handle a huge array of input types, but output types as well. It has presets for common output containers for devices from Apple to Android, DVD and BluRay.
You can also customise output, trim and join clips (with or without a transition)
Xara software users can convert their clips to .FLV for embedding movies into their Xara Web pages.
The installer also asks if you want to install Chrome and FireFox plugins which allow you to download and convert movies from YouTube (and others) on the fly - this works brilliantly!
Additionally, you can make flash slideshows from your photos and embed these into your Xara Web pages.

Thursday, October 23, 2008. This story went viral 3 years ago when our neighbour snapped off a shot of a Golden Orb Weaver eating a bird.

This critters are about all the time and today I had the fortune of stumbling into one (well almost) as I went looking for our Siamese cat, PeeKai. (As see in the background, oblivious to the dangers above )

Shots taken with the Canon Powershot S95 in P mode using the 3.8x optical zoom.

Hi every one,
Was busy with work, Extrusions and Flash in Xara and for long time don´t share any drawing in the gallery.
Well, here is the new drawing "Lobster" created in XDP7 based on photo.
The second lobster in the back is just a clone of the first one, hope it fits the whole drawing, no time to recreate as original drawing, too much objects in it.

Wow, I have been doing so many projects lately that I needed to build a room to hold them all. So here it is, My Xara Room! Actually, I could not figure out a proper background for my jukebox. So I thought, "what better background than a room." Well, the room seem kind of empty with just a jukebox, so I decided to add some furniture. So, here it is, My Xara Room. Everything in this room is vector. I started with some fractal texture for the drywall and then decided that I needed some wainscoting to protect the drywall. After I built the wainscoting, I decided that I needed a chair and so on...

I look forward to hearing some of your thoughts.

I did this illustration to show what this plane would have looked like if built. The design was put forward in 1942 but went no further. The planes are 99.9% vector and the background is a mix of vector and raster.

Flat country now until the New South Wales border. Cotton and wheat and cattle.
Also the nearly extinct 'Stop & Go man' . . . he is being automated.
Some roads I went through were under 1.5 metres of water only 6 months ago.

A workaround I have used to reduce the memory bog down of Xara's brushes is to create my brushes from bitmap copies. This also allows me to create brushes from complex objects and use transparencies and feathering not supported by Xara's brush engine. How ever there is a downside, you can't create colour changeable brushes this way so you need to create a separate brush for each colour you need. And you can't change the hue in the edit brush box either.

A cousin sent me some lovely pix of her short break on the Isle of Man. I decided to attempt this very old cottage. All was going well-ish till I had the bright idea of using brushes for the foliage. I lost the will to live! It's not the brush-makers' fault. Xara doesn't handle these things well does it? Even when turning the brushes to editable shapes the program becomes like treacle. So I have given up for now ... always happens when I try brushes Ah well, in XDP8 ....

Hope you like this Portrait, created it in XDP with new technique, also no need to use Feather, or lineal fill, Just solid colours (at least 6 colours used to colour the face) and transparency and i found this drawing technique makes the portrait easy to create.

I don't know how Anas comes up with these 3D images. Well of course I do, I had to put the tutorial material together. But I am always amazed. Just 11 simple shapes, and a little imagination, and Xara 3D Maker 7, and bingo. A clever little wooden (or any texture you want to give it) toy train.

I had a ball going through the steps and I think you will too.

And please, it takes a lot of time and effort for Anas and the other Guest Tutors to come up with these tutorial. Take a moment of your time to say thanks. Thanks.

Want to see if i can draw it as shiny thing and how the transparent objects work on another mat colours objects, hope it´s really shiny.
No use of Bitmap effects, bitmap fill or LE, Just objects and shapes with normal fill, transparency and Named Colours used.

Hi every body,
Here is the new fun work with XDP6, a Harley illustration, i think this is the first Harley at XU.
All objects are vector forms and shapes, most with solid colours and some transperency. some of the shapes filled with lineal fill but No use of feather or bitmaps fill.

No I didn't mean Heartbreak Hotel...

Fans of the British TV series Heartbeat should recognize this place The brickwork was done with Eye Candy 6 then molded and layers of fractal transparencies of different colours were added on top. I used two photos for this one to trace shapes and get the perspective correct, and the other to see missing details in the first. both photos had modern vehicles parked in front and one had people in modern clothes so I eliminated them. I also recreated the sign from the TV show as of course Aidensfield isn't a real town and the building is really the Goathland Hotel All in all this was a fun piece to do and I hope you like it.

So my newst work is not yet finish, but i like the new Tutorial of Gary in XaraXone and i like to play with the xtrude tool in XDP6 too, tried to follow the steps in Gary´s instruction in the Tut. and here is the Result.
I just added Named colours to his design so that i can easygoing to change the colours in his design.

Sorry, i was too busy and have no time to share any work, so as you know i´m an egyptian who live and work in Austria and want always to draw the golden Mask of king Tut, some of Illustrator users drawn it in AI, but i don´t see any one or Xara users in TG or here that used Xara to draw this Mask, However i tried to draw the Mask in XDP and you can compare the drawing with all Illustrator users work and please tell me how you find it, don´t forget please theIllustrator users they have drwen this Mask are Profi. i´m not.

Hi Xperts.
I had started this in November 2009.
Why did it take so long to finish it?
The answer is quite simple. It just looked a bit too daunting back then. I didn't have a clue how I would do various parts.
Well, having built a bit of confidence (which was only possible with the help of all the Xperts) I thought that it was about time I finished it.
So, here is the finished article and only you can judge what it's like?!

I was so impressed by BP's altering AI tutorials that I thought I would give it a try. I picked this winter scene. It took me awhile to decipher the AI terms to Xara but it kind of worked. Hope you like it

This was first thing in the morning and the old hands were not that steady.
These photos clearly demonstrate the difficulty in ultra closeup photography.
You will notice the very small depth of field when you look at the ground. There is a fine band in focus. You have to decide which bit you want in focus. I took a couple of sections and may try to join two together.

Yes I realize it is only November, but as holidays draw near we all tend to get busy so I'm going to start this now. XU members are scattered around the globe and we all probably have many different traditions and beliefs so I thought it would be interesting if we all shared an drawing depicting what you do or celebrate in December where you live. It can be a holiday image, or simply an image of what December is like where you live. Create your image and post it here along with a brief description of where and what it is. For example: Holiday cookies and eggnog, British Columbia , Canada.
At the end the images will be put together as a slide show and hopefully we will have our own little view of December around the world.
Images must be jpg or png and 640 X 480 pix. Deadline is Wed.Dec. 15

Got pulled into doing a sailing ship for a graphic earlier this year. Of course once hooked in you can't let go.
As it was a bit before my time - taken from an old book, I would suggest a print of a painting.

Tilt-shift miniature style photos are pictures of real-life scenes that are manipulated to look like model photographs.
Original tilt-shift photography required special tilt lenses, but now the effect is easy to simulate with software.

Egg (CinderCity) recently sent me an URL to an online tilshift picture maker where you can upload an photo, set a few parameters and their software does the rest. There are some fine examples at http://www.tiltshiftmaker.com - but really, this is so easily done in Xtreme or Desiger Pro 6

Here's an example taken from the Sunshine Tower in Tokyo looking down on Ikebukuro by my son's friend while they were in Japan just recently.

I few simple steps in Designer Pro 6 and a viola! In less than a minute or so you have a Model Cityscape

Vector: Houston Texans

Now you get the second NFL team from the great state of Texas. The Houston Texans...not a big fan of the team, but I really like their logo.

This logo was fairly easy to do. I created the white background shape. I then cloned it and sliced it down the middle and used the countour tool to reduce the split shapes down. I had to make a few adjustments with the shape editor tool and change the colors, and draw a quick star and bingo it was done.

It should be noted that a lot of these logos have white outlines and can been seen best if you click on the logo to see the larger version, as the larger version doesn't have the white background.

The World - from space

I was having a go at drawing a simple globe and thought it might look good from a space point of view - with a few stars!

Then I put a compass on it (which I had drawn previously) to see what it would look like?!

What do you think?

The Konrad Zuse Challenge

I've named this challenge "The Konrad Zuse Challenge" in honour of the inventor of what is regarded as the first computer, the Z1.
2010 is the centenary of his birth. If not for him, it's possible that we might not be here at XU as it might not have existed...
Anyway, I was doodling earlier today and ended up with the attached. Now I have no idea what it is, but it looks like it might be
useful for something.
The challenge (in 2 parts) is this;
(1) Suggest a use for what I have created.
(2) Draw another "invention" so that we may be able to supply suitable suggestions for its purpose.Remember, you must supply your own artwork as well as offering suggestions in order to contribute to this challenge.
